Ingredients to prepare Bajra Upma
Foxtail millet – 100 grams
Carrot – 1 medium piece
Onion – 1/2 piece
Peas – 1/2 Bowl
Curry leaves – 6-7
Green chillies – 2
Salt – As per taste
Turmeric – 1/2 teaspoon
Pinch of asafoetida
Ghee – As per need
Directions to cook Foxtail millet upma recipe
- First of all, clean the foxtail millet with water. It has a high fiber content. Therefore, clean it with water 2-3 times. Then, put it in a cooker with 2 glasses of water.
- Add salt to it as per taste. Now, put the cooker on the gas. After giving 3-4 whistles, remove the cooker from the gas. Then, strain the millet and keep it aside.
- Now, boil the peas till they become soft and grate the carrots.
- After that, heat ghee in a pan. Add asafoetida, some cumin seeds, green chillies and curry leaves. Add chopped onion to this hot ghee and cook for 2-3 minutes. Now, add grated carrots and boiled peas to it.
- Add turmeric, salt and let everything cook. After that, add Kangni or foxtail millet to this tempering. After stirring it for 4-5 minutes, cover it.
- Let it cook on low flame. It takes about 10 minutes to cook. Now this delicious dish is ready for you.
- Now take it out in a bowl and serve by adding ghee as per requirement.
