Ingredients to prepare Millet Khichdi
Millet (Bajra) – 1/2 cup
Moong dal – 1/2 cup
Desi ghee – 1 teaspoon
Asafoetida (Hing)– a pinch
Cumin seeds (Jeera) – one teaspoon
Red chilli powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Tomato – 1 medium size (finely chopped)
Green coriander (Dhaniya) – finely chopped
Turmeric (Haldi) – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt – according to taste
Directions to cook Millet(Bajra) Khichdi Recipe
- Whenever you want to make Bajra Khichdi, clean the millet the night before and soak it in water.
- If you want to make Khichdi in the morning for breakfast, then soak it at night, if you want to make it in the evening, then soak it in the morning.
- The next day, drain the water from the millet with the help of a big sieve or cotton cloth.
- After this, take a pressure cooker and put the soaked millet in it. After this, add moong dal and two cups of water. Finally, add a little salt and put the lid of the cooker and cook till 4-5 whistles.
- After the whistles, turn off the gas and leave the cooker to cool down.
- After some time, when the pressure of the cooker is completely released, open the lid.
- Now take a deep-bottomed pan and put ghee in it and heat it on medium flame. After the ghee melts, add cumin seeds to it and fry it till it becomes light brown..
- Now add turmeric and a pinch of asafoetida and fry for some time. After that add chopped tomato and red chilli powder in it.
- Add some salt and 1 cup water and cook it on low flame for 3-4 minutes. When the masala starts leaving oil, then add boiled millet and moong dal and mix well.
- Now cook the khichdi for some time while stirring. After this, add salt according to taste in the khichdi and mix it while stirring. Now cook the khichdi for 2-3 minutes more, then turn off the gas.
